End-of-life care experience in many healthcare settings inspired our faculty to form The Center for Living and Dying. Our faculty has decades of experience offering compassionate service for people with life-limiting conditions. We are committed to bringing an innovative approach to education and to offering supportive resources that will enhance quality of life for individuals, caregivers, professionals, care centers and healthcare organizations.
In the United States the number of senior citizens has jumped 23% since 2000. Senior citizens are the fastest growing age group in the United States. U.S. residents who are 65 years-of-age and older currently make up 13 percent of the population - that number will double by mid-century according to the Census Bureau. The baby boomer bulge will continue to pad the senior population year after year, growing to 1 in 5 U.S. residents by 2030. We are fortunate to have the time right now to create a new way to talk about, advocate for and utilize health care resources in our country.
New approaches to education about chronic and terminal illness are necessary so that those with life-limiting conditions and their family members can understand the process they are experiencing and develop a common language with their caregivers. Development of a common language promotes effective communication from the time of diagnosis through treatment and into survivorship or end of life.
We provide public forums, consultation, workshops, classes and volunteer support to the community of Bothell, Washington and offer education and support to healthcare providers within the greater Puget Sound Region.
Our Vision: The Center for Living and Dying envisions a compassionate, informed community where living with life-limiting conditions is valued and supported and where compassionate care is provided as a standard of care.
